Hi--

that title probably explains it. I am using MS Word and Dragon 6 Professional, and my text dictation is pretty accurate.

However, when I get into a dialog box (say, fonts, or anything else) there is no response when I say "click bold" or "click margins" or "click close" or "press Escape." Then I resort to the mouse to choose what I want in the dialog box. And then, the all the words I spoke in the dialog box print out onto the typing page. I can say almost hear faint, sly laughter.

What is going on?

Do you have Natural Language commands turned on? Go to options/startup/Natural Language commands.

Hi again-- yes, it is marked "enable natural language commands" in my options/startup-shutdown menu.

A similar problem reportedly resolved after running a repair install off the installation CD.

Hello--

I ran the repair from the Dragon installation disk. The problem remains. When I am in a dialog box, every word of command is ignored but "saved up" until I return to the document, and then those words are added onto the page ("click save press save press ENTER," etc.)

Is there a generally recognized problem (and fix) when giving commands?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dialogue box/Text box problems are often indicitive of insufficient memory. How much RAM do you have and are you on a network?

I have seen similar results on machines with 256 MB RAM but it goes away if you add another 126MB.

I have had this happen in version 7, but only when I opened dialog boxes by means of Advanced Scripting macros using Visual Basic references and the Word Object Library.

In version 6, or 6.1, I was able to cure this by running a repair.

I have 512 MB of RAM, and the computer is an Intel Pentium 4. And the repair didn't fix the problem.

Are there any system adjustments or explorations that any of you could advise?

This is a longshot, but is dgnword.dot enabled in Word (look under Tools, Templates and Add-Ins.)

Matt, I think you're onto something. Dgnword.dot was not enabled. I added it to the templates, and clicked it.

However, when I exited Word (thinking this would become a "default" item, such as when you change screen view and exit), the "check" left the dialog box. I reopened Word, went to tools/templates, and the dgnword.dot was no longer checked. I then rechecked it, but still could not get further than "click format, click font." The dialog box is not responding to click/choose/select bold, italics, anything.

Should I be doing anything else with dgnword.dot, so it "comes up" when I open Word? Or anything else in this area?

To make it clearer:

I just followed Dragon's step-by-step directions, in the help/index, to "Click Format, Click Font." That much works.

What doesn't work is Dragon's next instruction: to "Click Font Style" and "Move Down" (to select Italics).

Nothing happens at all. When I finally get back on the screen, all my words (click font style, click close, etc.) print out! Great sense of humor someone has! But I'm too busy for the Mad Hatter. Any ideas, my more-knowledgeable friends?

One more observation to pinpoint this: I have very good response when in dialog boxes for WP9, WP10, and MS Excel. So it is only with Word that this problem is occurring. The same request is made for your expertise.

Joe,

When you go into Templates and Add-Ins, check to see the folder location of the other templates (that is, the folder path shown at the bottom of the box). Copy dgnword.dot into that folder and try again.
