I want to dictate on train journies, and then get VR software (presumably DNS but I haven't bought it yet) to read my dictation into Word. I have a relatively high spec Dell laptop (at least it was high spec when I bought it in December 2000). I'd be grateful for advice on what kind of dictating machine I should buy, and whether what i want to do is realistic, given that there will inevitably be background noise on the train. Many thanks.

You can get a Sony recorder with DNS Pro. However, I just dictate directly into my laptop when I am travelling by train or plane. You just run the Audio Set-up Wizard each time to compensate for the additional noise.

Thanks - the problem is that I have a large laptop and a dodgy back, and don't want to lug it around on trains etc. Hence the need to dictate into a dictating machine.

Understood. You might want to check out the following site http://dragon-support.dragonsys.com/support/ for more info on recorders. Just don't expect the accuracy to be as high as direct dictation.
