Over the coming months, I'll describe my involvement in the Voice Recognition industry. Today I'll start with my first exposure in early 1994. One of my billing clerks in my medical office returned from a weekend in Orlando. She said 'Dr. - You'll never believe what happened while I was away.' She went on to explain how her son became ill while on vacation, and the pediatrician was speaking to his computer to produce the medical notes. Obviously, I didn't believe her. However, she handed me a piece of paper with the name of the software company: Kurzweil Applied Intelligence. Needless to say - it didn't take long until I purchased Kurzweil's VoiceOrtho software for my medical office - and away I went. My office had 3 physicians at the time, and $20,000.00 later we were using the triggers included in the Orthopedic Surgery templates. Lots of fun, an incredibly tedious learning curve, not much productivity - but at least it was a start. More Later...
