Speech Recognition Software

What a close battle! Joel Gould, Dragon Systems' Director of Emerging Technologies, was first to the stage to read a three-paragraph excerpt of a Michael Miller PC Magazine column into Dragon Naturally Speaking. Using a quick reading voice, the program did a very good job, making 11 mistakes over 191 words. Gould also described and upcoming product that will let you dictate anywhere (it's like a minirecorder) and then attach it to your PC for automatic transcription later.

Next up was Roy Russell, Director of Development for Learnout & Hauspie. He used Voice Express Professional to dictate the same text, and he, too, had 11 mistakes across the document, all of which were easily fixable.

When the audience voted, Dragon Systems came out on top with 69 percent of the vote.
