June 30, 1998

IBM Japan has allied with Olympus Optical and Justsystems to produce new voice recognition products. The three companies hope to lead Japan's voice recognition market through compatiblity and shared technologies.

IBM Japan plans to release (July 24) its latest Japanese version of voice recognition software, ViaVoice 98, which will be compatible with Justsystem's unreleased (coming July 30) word-processing software Ichitaro Lite.

Olympus Optical's newest voice-recording hardware, Voice-Trek VT1000RV (tenative name) a small hand-held dictation device, will use IBM's ViaVoice Transcription software to create digital text files through recorded voice.
